Type D (MA-PW-D) weld-in thermowell with a cylindrical upper section and tapered tip
Type D (MA-PW-D) – a solid-machined weld-in thermowell for protecting temperature sensors in high-pressure applications

Application

Type D (MA-PW-D) is a weld-in thermowell that protects temperature sensors from process pressure, flow forces and direct contact with the medium. It is intended for high-pressure applications in steam and feedwater systems, boilers and chemical process installations.

The thermowell is machined from solid bar stock with a tapered immersion section and welded into the pipeline or vessel. Its closed end separates the sensor from the process medium while allowing heat to reach the sensing element inside.

The design follows DIN 43772. Material and dimensions are selected to withstand the combined pressure, temperature, flow and corrosion conditions of the application. The corresponding thermowell pressure-rating diagrams provide guidance on permissible operating loads.

Where it is used
Boiler feedwater lines
Steam and superheated steam pipelines
Pressurised gas pipelines
Chemical process pipelines and vessels

Properties

Construction
Machined from solid bar stock with a tapered immersion section for high-pressure service.
Process connection
Weld-in installation provides a permanent connection to the pipeline or vessel.
Materials
Available in EN 1.7335, EN 1.0460, EN 1.4571 or EN 1.4404 to suit the process medium and operating temperature.
Pressure and flow
Permissible loading depends on material, temperature, dimensions and flow conditions. See the thermowell pressure-rating diagrams.
Sensor connection
An internal thread secures the temperature sensor inside the thermowell.
Standards
The thermowell is constructed in accordance with DIN 43772.
