Type D is a temperature sensor for measuring steam, water and gases in pipelines and vessels at high pressure and flow velocity. It is used in boilers, power plants and chemical process systems, where the measuring point must withstand the mechanical loads imposed by the flowing medium.
The assembly includes a tapered thermowell machined from solid bar stock and welded into the installation. Its material and dimensions are selected for the combined pressure, temperature and flow conditions, together with the corrosion exposure. The permissible operating load therefore depends on the thermowell configuration and the application.
The interchangeable measuring insert allows calibration or replacement without removing the thermowell from the process. The welded connection remains undisturbed, keeping the pipeline or vessel sealed during this work.
RT-D uses a Pt100 or Pt1000 resistance element, while TC-D uses a type K, J, N or E thermocouple. Both are supplied as complete assemblies with a Type D weld-in thermowell.
