Type B is the standard industrial temperature sensor used across marine and industrial applications. Its welded coupling fixes the immersion length when the sensor is manufactured, while the interchangeable measuring insert allows calibration or replacement without removing the protection tube from the process. An extension neck provides thermal separation between the process and the connection head, protecting transmitters and electrical connections.
Type B is suitable for measuring the temperature of air, steam, gases, water and oils in closed pipes and tanks. It can be used at pressures up to 50 bar and flow velocities up to 25 m/s, where the mechanical load on the protection tube becomes the limiting factor.
Routine calibration or sensor replacement normally requires the process connection to be opened. With Type B, the measuring insert can be removed and replaced while the protection tube and welded coupling remain installed in the process, preserving the pressure boundary.
Type B is approved for both marine and offshore installations, making it suitable for engine rooms, tank and cargo systems, offshore platforms and a wide range of industrial applications.
The operating temperature depends on the measuring principle selected. RT-B, fitted with a Pt100 or Pt1000 resistance element, measures temperatures up to 600 °C. TC-B, using a Type K, J, N, T or E thermocouple, extends the measuring range to 1150 °C.
