BC/BCC thermocouple temperature sensor with a ceramic protection tube and a Form B connection head
Type BC/BCC – a thermocouple temperature sensor for high temperatures in flue gases and air in ovens, kilns and furnaces

Application

Type BC/BCC is a thermocouple temperature sensor for measuring high temperatures in flue gases and air in large ovens, kilns, furnaces and hot-gas channels. It is designed for measuring points where sustained heat and the process atmosphere require ceramic protection.

The sensor is configured to the duty. Type N is used for high-temperature measurement, while the noble-metal thermocouples types S, R and B cover the highest temperature ranges. C610 or C799 ceramic is selected to suit the operating conditions, with configurations for continuous measurement up to 1600 °C.

At these temperatures, contamination from combustion gases can affect the thermocouple and cause the measurement to drift. Where additional protection is required, a ceramic internal tube provides another barrier between the process gas and the thermocouple.

Where it is used
Large ovens and industrial furnaces
Flue gas ducts and hot air channels
Cement, lime and ceramic kilns
Glass melting and forming furnaces
Boilers, incinerators and waste-to-energy plants
Refinery heaters and sulphur recovery units

Properties

Sensor element
Type N or noble-metal types S, R and B thermocouples to IEC 60584-1, selected for the temperature and process atmosphere.
Temperature capability
Configurations are available for continuous temperature measurement up to 1600 °C, depending on the thermocouple and ceramic grade.
Connection head
A Form B connection head houses the electrical terminals or an optional transmitter.
Protection tube
C610 (Pythagoras) or C799 (Alsint) ceramic protection shields the thermocouple in high-temperature flue gases and air, with the grade selected for the operating conditions.
Internal protection
An internal ceramic tube is available as an additional barrier around the thermocouple.
Process connection
An adjustable flange or compression fitting allows the immersion depth to be set during installation.
Transmitter
Head-mounted transmitter option for direct 4–20 mA output.
Standards
The thermocouple assembly is constructed in accordance with DIN EN 50446.
